Ambassador Spotlight: Matt Posey | Purpose Fueled Eden Prairie

Some people show up to a room and look for the biggest conversation. Matt Posey looks for the person standing outside of one. That instinct is why he is one of our Ambassadors, and why the people he introduces keep thanking him for it.

When did you first walk through the door? What brought you here?

I first met Corey Falls, who introduced me to the events. My first one was in St. Paul, and I was genuinely blown away by the conversations we had that morning.

From the very beginning, everyone brought their authentic selves to the table, both literally and figuratively. People were open, honest, and willing to share their experiences, which led to some incredibly meaningful conversations and genuine connections almost immediately.

I was hooked after that very first event.

What made you say yes to being an Ambassador?

Attending these events at multiple locations in the cities and getting to hear the stories of the people who show up has become a bit addictive. What’s been especially surprising is that I’ve often spent time with many of the speakers before they share their stories, yet every single time I walk away learning something fascinating about someone I thought I already knew.

That’s one of the things I love most about these events. They create space for people to be open in ways that normal networking events rarely do.

I’ve always considered myself a curious connector. I genuinely enjoy learning what makes people tick and helping create meaningful connections. As an introvert myself, I also wanted to give back to my fellow introverts by helping create a room that feels welcoming and a little less intimidating. Walking into a room full of strangers can be overwhelming, and if I can help make that experience just a little easier for someone else, that’s a pretty rewarding feeling.

What do you notice about a room that most people walk right past?

I notice the people who are standing just outside the conversation.

At almost every event, there are a few people scanning the room, deciding whether to walk up to a group, wondering if they belong, or waiting for someone to make the first move. I recognize them because I’ve been that person more times than I can count.

I also notice the connections that haven’t happened yet. Two people standing on opposite sides of the room who would probably have an incredible conversation if someone simply introduced them.

What do you want every person who walks through the door to feel, especially someone who almost didn’t come?

I want them to feel like they made the right decision by showing up.

Walking into a room where you don’t know anyone can be intimidating, especially if you’re naturally introverted. I know that feeling well. My hope is that within the first few minutes, they realize this isn’t a room where they have to impress anyone or have the perfect elevator pitch. It’s a room where they can simply be themselves.

If someone almost talked themselves out of coming, I want them to leave thinking, “I’m really glad I didn’t.”

If they walk away having made one genuine connection, learned something meaningful, or simply feeling a little more seen than when they arrived.

What’s your favorite introduction you’ve made (two people you knew needed to meet)?

My favorite moment (so far) was realizing I knew exactly who someone had been hoping to meet.

They run a family business, and when I asked what an ideal introduction would look like, they described a pretty specific type of person. As they were talking, two people immediately came to mind. They were almost a perfect match for what they were looking for.

I introduced them, they all connected, and some really great things came from those conversations.

That experience reminded me that meaningful networking isn’t about collecting business cards. It’s about listening closely enough to understand what people truly need and then helping the right people find each other.

I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since.

How do you know when someone really needed to be here?

Because I always walk away having learned something.

Sometimes it’s realizing an assumption I made was completely wrong. Other times it’s discovering a new way to help someone, hearing a perspective I’d never considered, or listening to a story about someone overcoming something incredibly difficult. Every conversation seems to leave me with something I didn’t have before.

Over time, I’ve become much more intentional about listening. Rather than thinking about what I’m going to say next, I try to focus on truly understanding the person sitting across from me. That simple shift has been surprisingly transformative.

It’s made me a better connector, a better colleague, and a better friend. More than anything, it’s shown me that the most meaningful conversations don’t come from having the best answers. They come from asking good questions and listening closely enough to hear what people are really trying to say.

What’s one thing you’d tell someone who has never been to Purpose Fueled?

I’d tell them to come exactly as they are.

You don’t need to be the loudest person in the room, have the perfect story, or know anyone before you walk in. In fact, if you’re feeling a little nervous, you’re probably in good company.

Purpose Fueled is different from most networking events. People aren’t there to collect business cards or deliver polished elevator pitches. They’re there to have real conversations, share authentic experiences, and genuinely get to know one another.

If you’re willing to be curious, ask a few questions, and be yourself, you’ll fit right in. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll leave with a few new friends, a fresh perspective, and already be looking forward to the next one.

Purpose Fueled shows up differently in different people. How does it show up in you?

I have wrestled with “no one wants to hear that about me, it is boring” and when I have ignored that thought, some amazing conversations have happened with my tablemates. What I considered to be something mundane has opened up some amazing responses that I would not have thought would happen.

When you invite someone to Purpose Fueled, what do you say?

It really depends on what they’re looking for.

Some people are seasoned networkers who are constantly attending events, and I tell them why this experience has been so different for me.

Others are in the middle of a career transition and are looking for a place where they don’t have to navigate it alone, or simply feel so lonely during their exploration. Some are stepping into new roles and are searching for fresh perspectives from people who have been in similar situations.

No matter where they are in their journey, I tell them they’ll probably get something they weren’t expecting.

What’s one thing you’re excited about sharing with people right now, in your life or your work?

A lot of the objective goals you are chasing are actually far easier if you simply show up as yourself, I promise.

What’s the title of your next chapter, in life or in business?

If my next chapter is about anything, it’s creating more moments where people feel seen, valued, and connected. Everything else tends to take care of itself after that.

How do your best friends, kids, or family describe you? Who do they say you are?

That I’m curious. That I ask a lot of questions because I truly want to understand people, not because I’m waiting for my turn to talk.

I think they’d tell you I’m the person who remembers that random detail you mentioned six months ago, who introduces people because I think they’d genuinely enjoy knowing each other, and who gets just as excited watching someone else succeed as I do about my own wins.

What don’t people know about you that they should?

I am far more anxious and introverted than anyone believes I am. I still wrestle with it.

Who should find you in this room?

I hope the person who almost didn’t come finds me. The introvert standing by themselves trying to work up the courage to join a conversation, I want them to come find me.

What problem do you love solving for people?

I’ve learned that people usually aren’t looking for someone with all the answers. They’re looking for someone who will genuinely listen, help them think through a challenge, and, if possible, point them toward the next right step.

That’s Matt.
