Every kid who signs up for a sport is handed over to adults their parents have never met.
Tyrre Burks built a company around that. Players Health gives sports organizations the tools to make sure the place a kid plays is actually a safe one.
He wanted the NFL growing up. He ended up guarding the door for everyone still chasing it.
Tyrre is our Special Guest at Purpose Fueled | Viking Lakes on Friday, September 11th. Here is more about him, in his own words.
What do you actually do (in plain language), the way you’d explain it to a friend over coffee?
I lead a company that helps create safe places for athletes to play the sports they love. We do this by providing resources and tools for organizations to create that safe environment and the more they use our tools the cheaper their commercial insurance becomes. Think of us as a drive safe program for sports.
What’s the moment or decision that changed the direction of your life or career?
There are so many moments that have changed my life. It’s kinda hard to choose one but I’d say one of them was forgiving the woman that killed my mother in a car accident. In court at 20 years old I was faced with a choice: press charges or not and I chose not to press charges and forgive this woman that made a huge mistake. That day I left the courtroom free not angry but full of joy because the woman experienced the love of Christ that day. This is one of the most powerful decisions I have ever made.
What do you believe about people that most others in your field don’t?
I believe that each and every one is a solution to a specific problem that God knew would need to be solved in this moment in time. We are created for purpose, on purpose.
What are you most proud of, in life, not just in work?
Being the first man in 3 generations to have been a father to my kids. My dad didn’t know his dad, and his dad didn’t know his dad but it all stopped with me. Being the father that I never had to my children is what I’m most proud of.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to play in the NFL.
How do your closest friends or family describe you? Who do they say you are?
They would say I’m generous, disciplined and driven.
What don’t people know about you that they should?
I love to see people living in their purpose! It’s one of my greatest joys. When you see or experience someone living in their purpose the world becomes a better place.
What does “purpose” mean to you personally?
It is the reason that God created a specific person to exist. There is a mission for each person to accomplish, a problem to solve, a message to share that makes this world a better place.
What’s the title of your next chapter, in life or in business?
The harvest is coming!
What’s one thing you’re hoping people leave your conversation thinking about?
Their purpose, their mission. Knowing that they are create for a purpose on purpose filled with excited to live in purpose.
